A Photo Contest Truly Worth Your Effort

Graphic Products, maker of customer-trusted DuraLabel label and sign printers, has announced it is holding a photo contest for owners of DuraLabel printers and supplies. Effective immediately, Graphic Products is accepting photo submissions for unique, creative, challenging or intuitive label and sign applications. In other words, Graphic Products wants to see how you have been using your DuraLabel printer. But don't wait, the contest ends May 31, 2010.

You might ask, "What's in it for me?" Logical question; we knew you were smart. Here's your answer: "Oh, 'just' a shiny, brand new, latest edition 8GB Apple iPod Touch. Worth 195 bucks!"

Sounds (and looks) pretty sweet, doesn't it.

Take these steps, and you're on your way to a strong chance at winning:

1. Locate (or make and apply) a creative, challenging or uniquely effective label and sign made by any DuraLabel printer.
Insider's Tip: Look everywhere throughout your facility, and consider all the limitless possibilities of things to which you can apply a label or sign: machinery, walls, office equipment, medical devices, doorways, tools, work zones, cabinets, restrooms, bins, wires, pipes, nameplates, marine vessels, etc. Remember, Graphic Products is looking for a photo of a label or sign applied to something maybe no one has considered before and communicates a useful message. Don't forget the many DuraLabel specialty supplies.
2. Use your camera to capture a high quality photo of your label or sign.
3. Upload it to http://www.graphicproducts.com/photos/
4. Wait patiently till May 31, 2010 for the judges to make their pick for best photo. Or better yet, repeat these steps to submit more photos and increase your chances of winning the iPod Touch!

Premium Vinyl Tape

An important change has taken place at DuraLabel. What was formerly known as DuraLabel "Standard 3.0 Mil Supply" or "Standard Continuous Vinyl" is now officially named "Premium Vinyl Tape."

You might have a couple questions regarding this matter. Let your questions be answered:

So why the name change?

Because DuraLabel sells supply that is better quality than "standard." Before it's boxed and sold, Premium Vinyl Tape is meticulously examined and screened for imperfections on its surface and for overall inconsistencies in quality and performance. Competitors' "standard" vinyls are more likely to exhibit these undesirable traits. DuraLabel's vinyls, even under the former name, are not. So changing the official name of this popular supply to Premium Vinyl Tape brings the name in line with the consistently high quality traits you've long since come to associate with the DuraLabel brand.

How is "Premium Vinyl Tape" different than the popular supply I've been familiar with for so long now in "Standard Continuous Vinyl" or "Standard 3.0 Mil Supply?"

Only the name. DuraLabel's Premium Vinyl Tape is still 3.0 mil. It still resists most chemicals, it still stands up to abrasion and it is still unaffected by moisture and exposure to UV. And as always, you can still apply Premium Vinyl Tape to an endless number of indoor or outdoor applications, even in extreme environments. It is the most popular supply because of its resilient performance and "flexibility" in usability (OSHA safety labels and signs, pipe markers, custom labels, ID labels, etc.).

Two New Labeling Supplies!

Announcing two new label supplies available from Graphic Products: Embossable Poly Supply (Metallized) and Nylon Label Supply. Each of these supplies works excellently with four printers: DuraLabel PRO, DuraLabel PRO 300, DuraLabel 7000, and the DuraLabel 4TTP.

Embossable Poly Supply (Metallized)

Designed with a 6.0-mil silver metallized film coating, Embossable Poly Supply provides durable texture and professional appearance. With Embossable Label Supply, there are two options for including printed material on your labels.

One, print the label's template using your DuraLabel printer. Then simply use a standard ballpoint pen and write personalized or updated information right onto the supply. Because of its unique engineering, information written onto the supply using a ballpoint pen creates and maintains an impression to prevent labels from being easily altered.

Two, create completed labels entirely using your DuraLabel. Since Embossable Poly Supply is shipped blank in metallized silver, all of the label's information--the template and the personalized information like name and date--can easily be printed directly onto the supply. In other words, the example to the right shows the inspection label's template is both printed and handwritten. The name "FRED G." could have be printed straight from a DuraLabel. It's a matter of preference and depends on if you're ready to use the labels right away or not.

Some good uses for Embossable Supply?

Try using it to pen information on inspection labels or security labels. Within industries, Embossable Poly Label Supply is recognized as a popular form of inspection labels. So take advantage of it!

TIP: If you use a ballpoint pen to include personal information on Embossable Label Supply, write it with the backing is still on the supply prior to applying the label. Using a pen, it is much easier to write on a hard, flat surface than it is an irregular surface!

Nylon Label Supply

This flexible supply takes on the bendy, wrinkly surfaces fantastically. Nylon labels are made to stay attached! Label information printed on Nylon Label Supply will not become so easily distorted, and its special characteristics helps protect the topcoat from cracking.

Some good uses for Nylon Label Supply? Try using it for wiring projects in industrial settings. Wires can bend when subjected to rough handling, maintenance, or other natural or unnatural causes, and the flexibility of Nylon Label Supply adapts well to wire surfaces.

Other uses include garment care and rubber moldings. Most uneven and difficult surfaces are no problem because Nylon Label Supply will conform to it. So what if surfaces don't hold their shape, because now there is a solution!

New Specialty Supply: UV Watermarking Supply

We've all experienced the security checkpoint line at the airport. We hand over our boarding pass and driver's license to a TSA employee, she marks the boarding pass with a pen or marker, and then she shines this cool light onto our driver's license. What the TSA employee is doing is verifying a certain seal or symbol especially visible in UV light. A new specialty supply for use with DuraLabel PRO label printers provides a similar benefit of security to those who use it on labeling applications. It is called UV Watermarking Supply.

Labels can be printed to include fluorescing ink that hides graphic images and text until exposed to UV light (black light), which then tells you that the label is genuine and not a counterfeit.

How do you get your hands (and your UV light) on this UV Watermarking Supply, you ask? The answer is simple: Graphic Products offers a convenient service for its customers to receive exactly what they need. Simply provide Graphic Products an electronic image (you may also provide a sketch on paper) of your company logo, text, or other graphic that you would like to have appear in fluorescing ink. Supply specialists will then prepare your UV Watermarking Supply and ship it to you in only a matter of days. Upon receipt of the supply, load it into your DuraLabel PRO printer and print as normal (barcode labels, product part number labels, etc.). Exposure to a UV light, showing your fluorescing image or text, verifies your labeled product, part, or area is authentic.

Amazing New DuraLabel Supplies

I generally don't like to use words such as "amazing." But some of the supplies available for DuraLabel industrial printers are... well they are amazing. DuraLabel is leading the way as a manufacturer of label and sign printers that solve problems. DuraLabel printers have the same supplies as other brands of printers, but they don't stop there.

One of my favorite DuraLabel supplies is the oily surface supply. It is used to produce labels and signs that can be applied to oily or greasy surfaces. The adhesive backing chemically reacts with the oil to produce a strong, durable bond. When it is not possible to thoroughly clean a surface, DuraLabel oily surface supply gets the job done right.

DuraLabel high temperature supply is another label and sign problem solver. It can be used on surfaces or in areas in which the temperature gets as high as 300 degrees (F). What's amazing is that this supply can also be used in low temperature areas. It has a service temperature range of -40 to 300 degrees. DuraLabel high temperature supply is the problem solver when you need to have labels and signs that survive either high temperature or low temperature environments.

DuraLabel has made the commitment to not only do the easy jobs well, but to be your labeling and sign making problem solver even for the most difficult applications. Whatever your labeling or sign making needs, DuraLabel gets the job done, and gets it done right.

Specialty Supplies for the DuraLabel 7000

Now that the new DuraLabel 7000 industrial label printer--an exciting printer that prints on supplies 4"-7" in width--has been introduced, it is time to introduce some "new" specialty supplies.

Other DuraLabel printers like the DuraLabel 2000 and DuraLabel PRO printers are capable of printing on a wide variety of specialty supplies, so it only makes sense that the DuraLabel 7000 has the same capabilities. Graphic Products is always striving to be on the cutting edge when it comes to providing innovative, useful, and reliable labeling supplies. With that said, no one should be suprised that even more specialty supplies will become available in the future for use with the DL7000. But for now, here is what every DL7000 prints on (besides standard 3.0 mil supply, of course):

1. Reflective Supply: 4", 6", 7" widths; 70' per roll; white, yellow, red, green, orange, blue

2. Oily Surface Labels: 4", 6", 7" widths; 95' per roll; white

3. Cold Storage Label Stock -- Service Temp. -40°F to 212°F: 4", 6", 7" widths; 50' per roll; white, yellow, clear

4. Repositionable Label Stock: 4", 6", 7" widths; 100' per roll; white, yellow

5. High Temp. Poly Label Stock -- Service Temp. -40°F to 300°F: 4", 6", 7" widths; 100' per roll; white, yellow

6. Phosphorescent Supply: 4", 6", 7" widths; 50' per roll; off-white

7. Fluorescent/Day-Glow Label Stock: 4", 6", 7" widths; 70' per roll; blaze orange, Day-Glow yellow, Day-Glow green

8. Metallized Polyester Supply: 4", 6", 7" widths; 70' per roll; brushed aluminum

CryoTape has a 2.0-mil gloss topcoat that resists smudging and abrasion and uses a permanent acrylic adhesive that provides superior bonding on both high- and low-energy surfaces.

CryoTape is available in white and clear.

When you have cryogenic labeling applications, the DuraLabel PRO and DuraLabel PRO 300 get the job done, and get it done right.

There is no other industrial label printer like a DuraLabel PRO printer. The DuraLabel printers have a wider selection of supplies, including many specialized supplies, than any other label printer. The Best Comes From The Experts

DuraLabel supplies give you the best performance... the best durability... the best clarity... and the best value. Why? Because with DuraLabel PRO supplies you are dealing with the labeling experts. We don't just say things because they sound good, we know what we are talking about and you can see our experience and expertise in the quality of our products.

Let's look at DuraLabel PRO vinyl tape as an example. What makes a quality vinyl tape?

The are a number of factors such as the smoothness of the vinyl surface. The quality, type and thickness of the adhesive? And the thickness of the vinyl.

Vinyls for printing labels and signs are available in thicknesses ranging from 1.5 mil to 10 mil.

Off the top of your head you'd think that the thicker the vinyl, the better the quality of the labels it makes. Bigger is always better... right? But, that's not right. Thicker vinyl does not mean more durable vinyl. The truth is that the opposite is true. The thinner the vinyl, the longer the life of the vinyl. To get ten-year vinyl, for example, means the thickness will be in the range of 2.0 mil.

Thick vinyl has the advantage when it comes to direct "body" hits. A thinner vinyl may show direct impact damage before thicker vinyl will. However, thinner vinyl has better "self healing" properties for scuffs and minor damage. With thinner vinyl small holes will reseal or can be worked to reduce the amount of damage. This also helps to keep the adhesive intact.

However, the most common type of label damage is called "grazing". This happens when something moving rubs or brushes against a label. This could be a person walking by, or water (rain) flowing over the label, or even just wind.

Where thin vinyl vastly outperforms thick vinyl is in the edge profile. The friction of "grazing" can literally peel the label up over time. When the edge of a vinyl label begins to come loose, even by a small amount, its days are numbered. Once the edge seal is broken, air will dry up the adhesive at a much more rapid rate and water or chemicals will degrade the adhesive. The thicker the vinyl, the more susceptible it is to peeling up on the edges when it comes into contact with anything that causes friction: water, wind, compressed air, cleaning apparatus and so on. Human actions are probably the single biggest factor in how long a label will last i.e., cleaning tools compressed air, pressurized water etc.

The low edge profile gives thin vinyl a distinct advantage in this area as there is less surface area around the edges. Less surface area means less friction and edges that stay stuck.

The truth is, when it comes to vinyl labels, thicker is not better. DuraLabel vinyls are designed to have the optimum thickness. For most applications this is 3.0 mil. This provides excellent resistance to both "grazing" and "body hits", resulting in the longest life.

When selecting your next label and sign printer, go with the experts... DuraLabel PRO. We are the labeling supplies experts that you can trust to deliver the best quality for the jobs you need to get done. No bull. No smoke. No mirrors. Just plain talk and outstanding quality. Give us a call today at 1-800-788-5572.

Quality DuraLabel Supplies

When you purchase DuraLabel vinyl from the OEM (Duralabel vinyl supplies) you are assured of quality. Don't assume that all vinyl is the same. Trust the supplier that has both extensive testing and extensive R&D behind all the products they sell.

What can go wrong with vinyl?

With DuraLabel supplies you do not need to worry about dimbles in the vinyl. If the vinyl is not manufactured properly small dimples can form in the vinyl surface. The result is poor quality printing when making signs and labels.

With DuraLabel supplies you do not need to worry about labels coming loose. Poor quality adhesive, or imperfections in the adhesive such as an uneven coating, can result in labels that do not stay stuck. Of course, labels must be properly applied to a clean surface. But when properly applies they should last many years, not just a few months.

With DuraLabel supplies you do not need to worry about labels fading or the printing scratching off. Poor quality ribbons may produce printing that appears to be good, but then you find that it quickly fades or comes off. There are many types of ribbons available. Matching the correct ribbon with the material being printed is important. Just as important is using a quality ribbon.

DuraLabel Web Site Upgraded

The DuraLabel web site is involved in an updating process over the next three months. You can already see significant changes, with the change to a new header and new home page. The purpose of the upgrade is to increase the amount of information available, and to make the site easier to read and easier to navigate.

Most industrial label printer web sites provide very little information about the machines they offer. However, the DuraLabel PRO and DuraLabel supplies offer such a unique opportunity to cut your labeling and sign making costs while improving quality, that there is a lot to say. And we are not the only ones saying it. As you'll see on the the new DuraLabel site, lots of DuraLabel PRO customers have good things to say about the DuraLabel PRO printer, DuraLabel supplies and the outstanding customer service that backs the DuraLabel PRO.

Plus we'll be adding MORE FREE GIFTS. We are working hard to produce additional, quality lean manufacturing and industrial labeling best practice guides. You'll see the first three of these appear on the DuraLabel web site with a few days. And more are coming.

Labeling Pipe System Isn't Expensive with Special OSHA Package

Pipe marking is a pretty big deal in industrial facilities. Not only will the company get slapped with a hefty fine for not having any, but emergency situations can quickly get from bad to extremely, horribly bad. Valuable time can be wasted when emergency crews are trying to determine which way the flow is going and what feeds where and/or into what. An easy remedy to a lack of labels is the DuraLabel PRO OSHA and Pipe Marking package.

This DuraLabel package is a great deal because it provides everything you need to label an extensive pipe system at an affordable price. The package provides supplies of various sizes. This is great since not all pipes are the same diameter. This way, you won't be wasting material (read: "money") by putting 4" wide labels on small pipes. This package also comes complete with an assortment of different colored tapes. Color coding pipes isn't only a great way of keeping things organized, it also meets OSHA labeling regulations. Nothing is better than looking good while meeting regulations.

Special DuraLabel Pipe Marking Labeling Package

If you are observant of your surroundings, you would probably take notice that the vast majority of pipes in a facility or building are labeled. These labels aren't failed attempts to cover up unsightly piping, nor were they meant to liven up the area with a little color or decoration. These labels are necessary. They are necessary because of the rules and regulations set forth by the ANSI/ASME A13.1 - 2007 standard.

Pipe labeling plays an important role in creating a safe work place. Proper labeling can prevent injuries and damage by safeguarding against mistakes such as turning valves on or disconnecting pipes at the wrong time or place. DuraLabel offers a Pipe Marking Labeling package that will provide you with the necessary equipment and supplies. The package includes a DuraLabel printer and supplies that come in various sizes and colors.

    DuraLabel Arc Flash Labeling Package

Last week we described a real life arc flash incident. However, it isn't possible to fully describe the danger and potential disaster of an arc flash as well as the possible solutions in a single blog entry. That's why we'll do it in two. In this week's entry, we'll discuss potential methods of keeping safe.

Other than reverting back to a hunting and gathering culture, there will always be chance for electrical accidents. The best method then, is prevention. DuraLabel products are perfect for arc flash labeling. Arc flash labeling will provide an excellent warning to people in a hazard area and provide them with useful information about the equipment they are near. With proper training, they'll be able to decide the best method or approach as to how to conduct repairs or maintenance.

DuraLabel even has an arc flash labeling package. The package includes a DuraLabel PRO printer and software, various vibrant tape designs, and a durable thermal transfer ribbon. An absolutely free copy of the NFPA 70E code will also be provided at your request and will complete the labeling package by telling you exactly what you need to know.

Arc Flash Proven Once Again to Be a Danger

Last month, two electrical workers experienced 2nd and 3rd degree burns when they were caught in an electrical explosion while investigating the source of a power loss. An investigation of the event that took place afterwards shows that an external switch was turned to the 'Off' position, but an internal switch mechanism was still in the 'On' position. When one of the workers attempted to pry a fuse from the switch terminal with a screwdriver, an electrical path was created, resulting in the electrical explosion.

These electrical explosions are also known as "arc flashes". They're notorious for creating massive damage to equipment as well as to a human body. One of the many intentions of our DuraLabel systems is create awareness of arc flash hazards to workers. After careful examination of equipment, DuraLabel's arc flash label supplies can be placed to serve as excellent visual communication to remind and warn workers potential danger.

Also, you can request the free DuraLabel Arc Flash Labeling Guide to make sure you are labeling such hazards appropriately and giving your workers the safest possible working conditions.

DuraLabel Has Printer and Supplies for Pipe Marking

The DuraLabel label printer is great for visual communication. This can't be any more obvious when it comes to pipe marking. When coupled with brilliantly colored vinyl tape and black or white ribbon, the labels provide excellent visuals and can identify the contents and the flow of direction within the pipe.

However, for a pipe label to be effective, it must be seen (hence the 'visual' communication). DuraLabel offers an excellent pipe marking guide, providing the pipe identification standards. This guide describes the proper color code, pipe size vs label size vs minimum character size, and the placement of the pipe markers.

What you mark the pipes with is very important. DuraLabel supplies are an excellent choice because of their durability and strong adhesive strength. Both the DuraLabel tape and the ribbon have a strong tolerance to temperature extremes. However, should the pipes be a little too hot or a little too cold, we also sell Pipe Grabber Sleeves. These are clear plastic pipe marking sleeves that curls tightly around the pipe and provides a clean surface for the pipe marking label.

    DuraLabel PRO vs Brady MiniMark

Desktop label and sign printers are very popular in facilities that have a variety of labeling tasks to complete. Many desktop labelers are industrial labelers that create professional looking labels. The DuraLabel PRO and the Brady MiniMark are both desktop labelers. However, they share a few differences that may influence the ease of use and how fast a labeling project can be completed.

    SOFTWARE
Both the DuraLabel PRO and the Brady MiniMark are not stand-alone printers. They function by connecting to computer with a Windows operating system. The difference in this set up, is that other than installing printer drivers, the DuraLabel PRO does not require any other software installation to run. (However, there are optional arc flash and chemical databases you can install from a free software CD included in your purchase.) After installing the driver, you can begin using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or Open Office to create your labels.

The Brady MiniMark on the other hand, requires the installation of Markware. This means you will have to learn and master completely new programs before you can make a label that compliant with the many standards out there.

    MOBILITY
With an addition of the optional slim and light battery, the DuraLabel PRO can go on field trips with you. This gives you freedom in creating labels on the spot anytime and anywhere you need them. All it takes is a laptop and the DuraLabel battery for the DuraLabel PRO to work.

The Brady MiniMark can be connected to a laptop as well, of course. However, it does not have the same freedom the DuraLabel posses because of its lack of battery. It requires an outlet which isn't easily reached.

    SUPPLIES
The DuraLabel PRO has access to many different types of supplies. The DuraLabel caters to specialty labeling such as low-light labeling, wire markers, shrink tube, etc. Also, DuraLabel supplies have an average outdoor life of seven years, two years more than other labeling materials on the market. Finally, you can print all these supplies at a rate of 5 inches per second versus the Brady MiniMark's print speed topping off at 3 inches per second.

These are only a couple features that gives the DuraLabel PRO an edge over the Brady MiniMark. But these additional features might be exactly what you need in your facility.

DuraLabel Printer Creates OSHA Compliant Safety Signs

Many safety standards demand the use of safety signs in a facility. While certain hazards in the workplace is unavoidable, many accidents are. These accidents can often be prevented with the proper creation, placement, and message of a safety sign. The DuraLabel PRO makes OSHA compliant safety signs that does wonders in communicating hazards.

Although the DuraLabel PRO's maximum tape output is 4 inches, creating larger signs is not a problem. The DuraLabel PRO is capable of printing in a tiled format that allows larger signs to be created. This DuraLabel printer is well equipped to handle many sign jobs a facility may need.

Some of the existing safety sign standards is that the sign itself cannot be a hazard and that it should be clearly seen. That means a sign should not have any bolts or corners that can cut or catch on anything and that placement of the label should give it excellent visibility. DuraLabel supplies fit this perfectly. DuraLabel labels are smooth and often made of durable vinyl that can adhere to most clean surfaces. In addition, certain supplies will aid in visibility such as phosphorescent and reflective labels.

    DuraLabel Hazcom and RTK Labeling

Hazard communication (Hazcom for short), also known as Right to Know (RTK), requires employers to communicate to employees of the hazards involved with certain materials they might handle over the course of their work. There are several ways of communicating hazards: formal training, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and using appropriate labeling techniques.

There are two systems of labeling that may be used, both of which comply with OSHA's labeling requirement. One system is the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and the other is the Hazardous Material Identification System/Guide (HMIS/HMIG). The NFPA label design is called the fire diamond and it is composed of four colored diamonds combined to form a larger diamond. The colors are blue, red, yellow, and white. The HMIS uses horizontal colored bars stacked on top of each other. The colors HMIS use are blue, red, orange, and white.

DuraLabel supplies have both NFPA and HMIS designs. The separate designs are preprinted onto die-cut stock and cater to both types of RTK users. This ensures that which ever system your facility uses, DuraLabel will have OSHA compliant Hazcom label designs and layout.

DuraLabel Software Makes Designing Labels Quick and Painless

Doesn't it just seem like everything you hook up to a computer require you to install complicated, clunky, and resource-consuming software? And more often than not, the new "advanced" program just takes up memory space because it turns out that you don't really need it. The DuraLabel software that comes on a CD with the DuraLabel printer is not at all like the unruly software packages you receive with other computer related products. Other than the driver that allows customizing of the DuraLabel printer, all other data and files on the CD is completely optional.

Although optional, we don't see any reason why you wouldn't want what we provide to be on your computer. The CD is packed with useful features. There are hundreds of industry standard graphics and symbols that are often used and universally recognized. The software also includes hundreds of Microsoft Word and Open Office templates and examples that allow you to easily edit and print acceptable label formats.

The DuraLabel software works especially well with DuraLabel supplies. A unique application allows you to design and print on RTK die-cut labels such as arc flash and NFPA warning and information labels. This software also stores information on the many types of chemicals and materials that are used in the industry as well as labels previously created so you don't have to keep remaking them.

With all these useful features, it's easy to take it for granted. What the software doesn't have is just as important as what it does have: It doesn't have spyware; it doesn't have clunky, hard to use programs; and it doesn't take up a lot of memory space. In short: it's everything you need, nothing you don't.

Pipe Marking Takes Out Guess Work

Wanting to know where things go and where they end up is a human curiosity that stems from early childhood. What child hasn't stared wonderingly at the swirling water of a toilet bowl as it disappears? This curiosity still exists in adults, especially for those working in industrial, manufacturing, or production plants and facilities. This adult curiosity is more than just idle thoughts, however. The direction, pressure, and contents of pipes, can each create potential hazards when dealt with the wrong way.

Labeling pipes and pipe marking is one way to counter this issue. Pipe marking is so important so that standards exist to ensure proper labeling. Labeled pipes are very useful and will save time when conducting maintenance work or dealing with emergencies. Pipe marking follows standards that is quickly and easily read and recognized. Color coding shows the hazard level of the contents, large lettering identifies the contents of the pipe, and arrows show the direction of flow.

This identification is very important. Should there ever be an emergency, pipes can quickly be determined if they pose a hazard. No matter how strong your curiosity is, you don't want to experience scalding hot water on flesh.

    DuraLabel Versatile Vinyl Supply

The DuraLabel supply of vinyl comes in two different types: a thinner 2 mil vinyl and a thicker 3.2 mil vinyl. Other than the difference in thickness, the 2 mil and 3.2 mil vinyl are alike in all aspects. Both the 2 mil and 3.2 mil vinyl is resistant to several types of abuse. They are treated to be resistant to many types of chemicals, water and moisture, temperature extremes, abrasion, light, and tearing. They both come in a full range of colors and they are both fitted with a strong adhesive that lasts for years

3.2 mil vinyl is thicker and is the standard labeling tape for one of the DuraLabel printers. It is stronger and has a higher resistance to damage.

2.0 mil vinyl is thinner, therefore slightly more flexible than the 3.2 vinyl. This allows it to be applied to oddly shaped objects and curves.

Both vinyl types are of top quality. But depending on your labeling needs, one might work better than the other. However, whichever one you choose, DuraLabel has the supply you need.

High Quality, Low Price = DuraLabel Supplies

Whenever people make their purchase, they consider several factors. Two of which include the quality of the product and the price of the product. Generally, these factors coincide with each other; as quality goes up, price usually goes up as well. Although this trend happens frequently, it doesn't necessarily mean high quality will equal high price. For example, DuraLabel supplies are of a high caliber without a hefty price tag that usually accompanies such products of impressive degree.

DuraLabel supplies such as the line of vinyl is made with the highest regard for customer satisfaction. They are industrial strength, professional grade, and come in a wide selection of colors to anticipate a customer's needs. They are treated to resist assorted chemicals, moisture, light, and wide range in temperature allowing labels up to seven years of service. This makes DuraLabel vinyl perfect for outside environments as well as manufacturing, production, and utility industries.

A steep price may be expected with specifications like these, but that isn't the case. DuraLabel develops and sells its own supplies, offering customers the chance to purchase directly from the manufacturer. This method allows customers to save up to 50% in labeling costs.

This is possible with the extensive variety of DuraLabel supplies. Our aim is to be able to help you accomplish any labeling need. DuraLabel Supplies Include Wire Wraps

Previously, we discussed shrink tube as an excellent way of labeling and marking cables and wires. Although shrink tube is a very good method, we don't want to leave out another viable labeling method: wire wraps. Wire wraps are another DuraLabel supply that provide easy labeling solutions. At first glance, they may look like any other type of DuraLabel vinyl tape. With wire wraps, however, you only print on a portion of the tape. The rest of the tape is a clear adhesive laminate "tail" that wraps around to protect the printed area and ensure a secure fit.

Shrink tube and wire wrap have the same labeling purpose but they both excel in different areas. Whereas shrink tube can fit snugly around a cable as well as over odd shapes such the head of the plug, wire wraps can be applied anywhere onto the length of the wire or cable even when the wire or cable is already terminated.

Like all DuraLabel supplies, DuraLabel wire wraps are lower priced when determined by the price per inch when compared with competitors and similar products. Wire wraps will make an excellent addition to any facility that needs to complete a network labeling task.

    Shrink tube keeps connections organized.

DuraLabel's supply of shrink tube makes an excellent addition to any order. With our increasing dependence on computers and technology, shrink tube is a very smart investment. Shrink tube is a DuraLabel supply that is designed with the specific purpose of keeping wires, cables, and plugs marked and easily identified. This is a huge convenience when hooking up hardware or if a network needs to be reorganized.

There are three easy steps in securing shrink tube:
    1. Print on the shrink tube.
    2. Slip shrink tube onto cable or wire.
    3. Shrink supply with a heat gun.
After shrinking the shrink tube, the supply now fits snuggly over the cable or wire. With its thin wall, the shrink tube is pliable and can flex along with whatever it encases. In addition to written identification, you can also use this specialized DuraLabel supply to color code (white, black, and yellow) for quick general identification. Shrink tube is the premier supply in keeping cables and wires marked and organized.

DuraTag, the Toughest DuraLabel Supply Around

We often describe DuraLabel supplies as being tough, resilient, and able to stand up to immense abuse. It's true of our vinyl. It's true of our ribbon. It's especially true of our DuraTag stock. This material is strong! DuraTags are incredibly durable and cost effective when compared to other types of valve tags.

It's pretty easy to simply say that DuraTag is strong. But here are some cold hard facts and specifications of the material:

  • Puncture-Propagation Tear Resistance: 6,700 grams

  • Service Temperature Range: -70 to 200 degrees F

  • Tensile Strength At Break: 42 lbs/1" width MD/TD Avg

  • Yield: 243 lbs/MMSI

  • These are pretty impressive numbers. The material also does what you would expect from any other DuraLabel supply: resists moisture, chemicals, and functions great in outdoor environments. In addition, DuraTag does not tear even when nicked.

    DuraLabel Versatility

The DuraLabel systems were conceptualized to be tools that could accomplish a wide range of labeling tasks. When used with DuraLabel supplies, DuraLabel printers can create signs and labels for remarkable effect. Although often used to help facilities meet safety communication needs, the DuraLabel systems are also capable of handling any sort of visual communication need.

A DuraLabel printer is equipped with custom software that includes templates with common industrial symbols as well as symbols and graphics recognizable by anyone. This gives the DuraLabel versatility when it comes to labeling needs. The DuraLabel can be used to create labels for the entire facility. Not only can it perform pipe and wire marking tasks, but it can also create restroom signs and other general purpose visuals.

DuraLabel supplies are also useful. Tapes for example, last incredibly long. Once applied, labels are visible for years. Strong and resistant to rough conditions, DuraLabel supplies can even be used in outdoor environments, areas exposed to chemicals, frigid temperatures, and other harsh surroundings.

Labels and Signs That Turn Heads

There's more to proper labeling than just keeping safety inspectors happy. It's about keeping your employees safe. The DuraLabel makers recognize this and have manufactured supplies that grab and hold the attention of casual observers. Getting and maintaining attention is a key aspect of visual communication.

DuraLabel supplies offers solutions to this issue by creating labeling tape that comes in different sizes and a multitude of colors. Ribbon colors include red, blue, yellow, white, green, orange, and the standard black. Rather than using common and drab looking labels, messages can be advertised and communicated by contrasting dark text on brilliant backgrounds (or the reverse). The variety of supplies just mentioned, is just the normal vinyl tape and does not include specialty tapes such as reflective, phosphorescent, or oval die-cut.

DuraLabel supplies are made to last and made to get the message across. There is constant retooling and redesigning of the materials to guarantee utmost quality at the lowest price.

DuraLabel Supplies - Arc Flash Labels

It has only been fairly recently that arc flash has been recognized as a serious hazard. Both the NEC and NFPA codes require labeling of any device that has a potential for creating an arc flash. Although a specific label design is not specified, the label must have sufficient information to warn anyone in the area about the potential hazard.

The DuraLabel has a variety of supplies available for making arc flash labels.

The most popular DuraLabel supply for arc flash labels are the die-cut labels. These provide a preprinted header for both WARNING and DANGER labels, with the appropriate header background color. They are divided into four sections that organize the printed information making it easier to read. The DuraLabel comes with arc flash label database software for printing die-cut labels and storing information about your arc flash labels.

Die-cut labels also offer the advantage of greater durability. Because labels typically start to peel up from the corners, the rounded corners on die-cut labels prevent the corners from curling up resulting in longer label life.

Another option is to use two color DuraLabel continuous vinyl tape. Two color vinyl tapes are available as white with either a red or an orange stripe across the top. The signal word for the header is printed in the colored stripe and the text of the label is printed in the white portion of the label.

Solid color tapes may also be used to create arc flash labels. Solid color tapes can also be used to create arc flash warning signs. For example, the DuraLabel can make a 24" x 36" sign that has an eight inch orange header with the word 'WARNING" in six inch high bold text printed in the header.

    With all of the option

    DuraLabel Supplies For Winter

Does winter present conditions that might result in a change in how you do labeling? Yes. Cold weather and low visibility will make applying labels outdoors more challenging and reading labels and signs more difficult. However, the DuraLabel 4TTP has supplies to address these problems.

DuraLabel 4 supplies include tapes with low temperature adhesive. If you need to apply labels when it is cold outside, use DuraLabel cold storage tapes. They can be applied to clean, dry (remove any ice) surfaces even when temperatures are below freezing.

DuraLabel 4 supplies also include reflective tapes. When darkness comes early, and rain or snow reduce visibility, high visibility reflective tapes make finding and reading labels and signs much easier.

    Labeling Supplies

Would you like to learn more about the various types of labeling supplies that are available? The Industrial Labels site has a good summary of the more common types of labeling supplies, as well as describing some highly specialized supplies.

This article makes an important point. A label printed is only as useful as the supplies that are available for that label printer. The article is part of a series of articles that discuss the various factors you need to consider when purchasing a label printer. If you purchase a high quality printer, but you can't get the supplies you need to do the labeling jobs you need to get done, you must either compromise on quality by using an inappropriate supply, or purchase another label printer.

The availability of supplies is one of the major advantages of the DuraLabel 4TTP printer. From industrial grade vinyl tapes, to wire markers, to specialized RTK and arc flash labels, the DuraLabel has the supplies needed to do your labeling jobs. Yes, there are some highly specialized labeling jobs the DuraLabel can not do... such as making the special heat and chemical resistant labels for printed circuit boards. But for the vast majority of facilties, companies and organizations that need labeling, the DuraLabel 4TTP can handle all of your labeling needs... and even some labeling needs you may not have yet anticipated.

One of the things that's great about the DuraLabel 4TTP sign and label printer is the huge selection of supplies available. Supplies are an important consideration when purchasing a label printer. Without the necessary supplies, even the best printer is not very useful. DuraLabel vinyl tapes are available in over 100 colors. No other label printer has such a wide variety of colors available. Vinyl tapes are even available in combinations of two colors, such as an orange header on a white label. This provides a very economical way to create two color WARNING (or DANGER, SAFETY and other types of labels) labels that communicate your custom message.

DuraLabel vinyl tapes are available in two thicknesses. The standard 3.2mil tapes provide a sturdy, durable label. The thinner 2.0mil tapes are excellent when labels need to conform to curved or irregular surfaces.

Plus you can get tapes with adhesives that allow them to be applied at low temperatures, reflective tapes, glow in the dark tapes, and other specialized tapes.

    New, Longer, Label Templates

A new set of templates for Microsoft Excel are available for the DuraLabel 4TTP label printer.

To make the DuraLabel easy to use, it has always come with several hundred Microsoft Word templates for making labels and signs. This means you can use software you are already familiar with, Microsoft Word, to create and print labels. There is no need to learn how to use specialized label printing software. However, there is a limit in Word that has made it more difficult for some people to print the labels they need. Word will not print on material longer than 22 inches. Thus Word can not make labels that are longer than 22 inches.

Those who needed longer labels have been able to work around this limit by printing several labels, then joining them together to make a single, long label. But, that is no longer necessary.

Microsoft Excel does not have a 22 inch length limit. With Excel you can print long labels, and you'll still be using software you are familiar with--so there is no learning curve to go through. Excel label templates, with lengths up to 50 inches are now available for for the DuraLabel 4TTP.

If you are an existing DuraLabel owner, and you need the longer Excel templates, please contact your customer service representative.

    DuraLabel Supplies - Phosphorescent Tapes

That it is possible to make glow-in-the-dark labels and signs is something that never crosses the mind of many facility, maintenance and operations managers. But it is such a simple and elegant solution to the problem of providing necessary information during a power outage, that we should be seeing phosphorescent labels and signs everywhere.

Glow-in-the-dark label tape is available for the DuraLabel 4TTP label printer in 50 foot rolls. It comes in widths of 1/2", 1", 2" and 4". When it is not glowing, its color is off-white. You may print with any color ribbon on phosphorescent tape, but black printing is the most common. When there is no light the label material will glow with a green color. The printing will block the glow from the label tape and produce black text on a glowing green background. You can also print reverse text which will produce glowing text on a black background.

Phosphorescent labels can improve safety and decrease accidents by providing needed information during power failures and emergencies. Because no power is required, glow-in-the-dark labels can easily be used anywhere. The phosphorescent tape is adhesive backed so all you need to do is print the label, peel off the backing, and apply the label to a clean, dry surface.

Phosphorescent labels are just another of the many supplies available for the DuraLabel 4TTP, including a variety of specialized supplies. For more information about the DuraLabel 4TTP, visit these DuraLabel supplies pages.

There is plenty of space on both of these labels to print your custom text using the DuraLabel 4TTP label printer. More information about these labels is available at: DuraLabel Die Cut Supplies.

    DuraLabel Supplies Make The Difference

Most industrial quality label printers use thermal transfer printing (TTP). TTP produces high quality, durable printing. A key difference between printers is in the supplies they have available. Without the appropriate supplies, a printer is of no use.

The DuraLabel 4TTP printer has a vast array of supplies available, meaning you will face few limitations. You'll be able to use your DuraLabel for numerous labeling applications--from standard vinyl labels to specialized applications. No, the DuraLabel does not have supplies available for highly specialized applications such as the special materials used by some aircraft and missile labels. But for most labeling needs, the DuraLabel has the supplies that will get the job done--and done right.

    Loading DuraLabel Supplies

The DuraLabel printer is fairly easy to use when loading supplies.

First install the correct ribbon. Various DuraLabel supplies may require different ribbons. Ribbons are typically identified by a color dot inside the ribbon core.

To install DuraLabel supply tapes set the green guides, located inside the machine, to a width slightly greater than the tape width. Mount the roll of label material on the holder, but do not install it. Instead pull off about a foot of tape and then place the roll (and mount) inside the open cover. Feed the tape through the green guides and out through the slot in the front of the machine.

Now place the supply holder into the DuraLabel printer and roll up any slack in the tape.

Close the DuraLabel's cover and turn on the machine. If you are using die-cut DuraLabel supplies, you will need to calibrate the gap and have the machine detect the gap before starting to print labels.
