With a goal of creating labels built to last through triple digit California summers, plant operations supervisor Wayne sought out Graphic Products for assistance.
The application? Getting their outdoor plant piping marking scheduling with 4 inch wide labels on 30 inch wide pipes.
The GP team helped Wayne get up to speed about pipe marking color codes, the labeling process and selecting the right vinyl supplies for their application.
Using the DuraLabel PRO, Wayne and his team created and applied the labels themselves, which clearly indicate the direction of the pipe flow.
So far, the feedback from key audiences has been positive.
“We recently we had two regulatory agencies audit our facility and praise our labels — the local county safety inspector and a CAL-OSHA inspector who also shared her thoughts about how other companies should use thermal transfer printers to create and apply pipe markers.”
Pipe markers are used to show the contents and circulation directions of pipes, which if unmarked may be hazardous to repair or maintain. Industrial pipe dimensions and their materials vary greatly.
Wayne came up with a great way to deal with the heat, too.
“As the daily ambient temperature changed, we installed labels in different areas, so in the cool part of the day, the labeling was installed in the open sun area. When the heat of the day arrived, we installed labels in the shaded areas of the plant,” he said.
We can help guide you through specialty supplies such as reflective pipe markers, high temperature pipe markers which can be used on pipes up to 300° and high performance pipe markers which can withstand exposure to chemicals, heat, sunlight, high humidity and outdoor weathering.
